Slack Sound Alert Fix

Why Slack Notification Sounds Are Not Working on Windows 11

Introduction:

When your Slack desktop application delivers message alerts silently, conflicting system audio paths or Windows Focus filters are usually responsible. This communication bug causes corporate remote workers to miss critical team updates. Follow these three simple methods to restore your Slack notification audio alerts immediately.

H2: Step 1. Enable Sound Alerts Inside Slack Notification Preferences

An unexpected software update can sometimes toggle off the internal sound communication triggers inside the application interface.

  1. Open the Slack application on your computer.
  2. Click on your workspace profile picture located in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Preferences from the drop-down options menu.
  4. Click on the Notifications tab on the left sidebar panel.
  5. Scroll down to the section titled Sound & appearance.
  6. Check the box for Play a sound for notifications and pick a loud alert sound from the drop-down menu.

H2: Step 2. Turn Off Windows 11 Focus Session and Do Not Disturb Modes

Windows 11 features built-in gaming and concentration filters that automatically silence all desktop applications without your permission.

  1. Click on the Clock and Date section in the bottom-right corner of your taskbar.
  2. Check if the Do Not Disturb icon (the small bell shape) is turned ON.
  3. Click the icon to switch it OFF.
  4. Next, press Windows Key + I to launch Windows Settings.
  5. Go to System > Focus on the main menu.
  6. Click the Stop focus session button if a timing sequence is running in the background.

H2: Step 3. Grant Slack Notification Permissions Inside System Settings

Windows has an independent security layer that can block desktop software programs from pushing sound alerts through your system speakers.

  1. Press Windows Key + I to open the Windows 11 Settings dashboard.
  2. Select System from the sidebar and click on Notifications.
  3. Scroll down the app list to locate Slack.
  4. Toggle the main switch next to Slack to ON.
  5. Click on the Slack name block to expand the sub-menu.
  6. Make sure the box next to “Play a sound when a notification arrives” is fully checked.
